this is the process of how I made my prototype for Project Lighting

made a perfect square out of paper, folded it in half, then folded it in six

Unfold until you have a square again

Fold down all the mountain folds on both sides of the paper

Connected three V-pleates with tape to create a triangles, attach four corners together  

attached another for triangles to the bottom to create a diamond shape with brads

and were done! A concentric triangle lamp is complete.

Dear designers
Well this semester could not of wrapped up better. This last lighting project truly was the icing on the cake. I know for many of you that this semester went by pretty fast, as least this last week have flew by for me. I thought we all did a fabulous job at decorating out classroom for the last critique. It was a beautiful sight to see all the different light that we all made strung together on the wire above us and displayed on the table and wall.
For me, as my light sit on the other couch of my living room next to me(its not hung up yet because I do not know where I put my extension cord) I learned alot from this last project. I am pretty glad that I never gave up on my design and that hard work paid off. I can not wait for it to be hung up in my living room. Making my light, makes me positive that my years of watching Project Runway was worth it. It really paid of to watch other designers to know how to stay true to my design as I worked on this light As I worked on it I felt like a cross between a seamstress and a doctor. Doctor are much more morbid, but I a was basically doing surgery on this lamp. There was both frustration and hope involved in this project. I learned that if I fall, I need to get right back up and keep trying.

Finals Week

Hello designers,
The semester is almost ever!  My lamp is on its way to becoming a delightful piece of art. I have worked on it some tonight. I finished scoring and folding all of the V-pleats tonight and am close to finishing the puncturing. Tomorrow I will finish the puncturing and work toward constructing each pleat together so it becomes a diamond shape. This will be done with brads and sewing. Hopefully each pleat with line up effectively, because of the stiffness of the bristol/construction. The prototype's construction laid down a great foundation to base the final light off of.

The final will also be the same shape at the prototype. My lamp will be a hanging light with a standard light bulb to create a glow. I am looking forward to see it finished as well as of yours on Wednesday. I know we all have been working so hard and are getting excited for the installation!

Foldimentation

Hello designers,

This project got messy, I had to clean up my room afterwards which made me decided to do further experimentation in the studio because at home is no place for designing. I had a specially good time though and documented the process for you fellow classmates. This ended up taking me several hours but it was enjoyable the whole time. It did not take alot thinking to make these and that what I enjoyed the most. There were all simply made and are going to be the foundation for my light fixture. It was challenging because I had to come up with twenty-five more designs for a single lamp fixture so it was a stretch. A few ideas did not work out as well as planned, but a few did work out and that's all that matters.

One of the snowflakes became an indigenous mask!

It was fun experimenting with different folding techniques; snowflakes, pop outs, v-pleading,
puncturing, cut-outs, zig-zags, football fold out, and geometric tabs.
